Why you need to brace yourself for a rough road commute on the roads of Texas
The Texas Road and Bridge Commission has warned drivers to prepare for road closures as floodwaters rise in the Rio Grande Valley.
Roads will remain closed throughout the state through Friday, the commission said Friday in a release.
There are no major flooding events expected in Texas this week, but officials are concerned that flooding from a tropical storm could impact highways.
The state has seen over 500 tornadoes and more than a half million inches of rain, with over 5 million people without power.
The storm brought heavy rainfall, flash flooding and mudslides to parts of the region.
The National Weather Service issued a mandatory evacuation order for many Texas communities.
The Texas Department of Transportation has urged drivers to follow evacuation guidelines for the area and to use extreme caution.
