Which roads are closed this week in the Hamilton area?
A week-long road closure has shut down one road in the east of Hamilton, in an incident which has forced residents to walk to work and the city to warn residents not to walk on the road due to hazardous materials being dumped in the area.
The city’s Emergency Operations Centre says on Friday that a road is closed in the Woodford area, where the city has a landfill.
Residents in the vicinity say they are concerned about the chemicals, which are being dumped into the area and have reported it to the city.
A number of roads are also closed in neighbouring areas, including in the city’s west, in order to reduce the risk of further spills.
A spokesperson for the city said on Friday there had been three road closures since Friday, two in Hamilton and one in the town of Woodford.
“In addition to the closures, we are also working with our partners to provide an emergency response for residents and businesses in Woodford and surrounding areas,” the spokesperson said.
“We are also aware of the presence of hazardous materials in the community, and are actively monitoring this and providing information to the community in the hope that residents can be protected.”
The spokesperson said the city would be working with the Hamilton Regional Municipality to determine how to provide “properly controlled access to public lands”.
Residents have been told to contact the city on 1800 228 090 for further information.
