Why are some people riding in traffic with their cars on a broken road sign?
On Wednesday, Axios reporter Chris Pate asked the driver behind the vehicle in question, a 23-year-old named Eric, why he’d be breaking the law if he’s actually going to go through the intersection.
Eric responded, “Because it’s broken, man.”
After Eric and his car crossed the street and crashed into a light pole, Eric told Pate, “I’ve been riding in the same spot for like three years now.
I never really thought I’d see this day.”
According to Axios, Eric said he was headed to work on Thursday morning and was heading back to his parents’ house in San Francisco when he saw a light on the road, which he thought was a light indicating a red light.
As Eric tried to maneuver through the light, his car was slammed into a car in the intersection, sending the two cars flying through the air.
Eric, who was in his mid-20s, was taken to the hospital with severe head injuries and is now in critical condition.
The California Highway Patrol says they’re investigating the incident and the cause of the accident.
The agency says it will take whatever actions are necessary to ensure the safety of all drivers, including those in traffic.
